OpenAI will acquire Pierre Computer Company to strengthen Codex
The maker of Code Storage is joining OpenAI, and its open-source libraries will stay open.
OpenAI has agreed to buy Pierre Computer Company, the startup behind Code Storage and the open-source Trees, Diffs and Highlights libraries. Terms were not disclosed, and the deal still needs regulatory approval.
Code Storage will fold into Codex after closing, while the open-source projects will remain open.
Why it matters
Coding is one of the most competitive parts of the AI market. As agents write more code, the infrastructure that stores and tracks it becomes more important, and this deal gives OpenAI more of that layer in-house.
