Anthropic's updated IPO filing shows $16.96 billion in quarterly revenue
The amended S-1 reveals rapid growth, an operating loss and nearly $900 billion in commitments, mostly for computing.
Anthropic filed an amended S-1 on November 2, ahead of its planned IPO. It reports third-quarter revenue of $16.96 billion, up 47% from the prior quarter, though that is slower than the 144% growth reported for the second quarter.
The company swung from a $974 million operating profit in Q2 to a $567 million operating loss. Management attributed this to about $5 billion of short-term computing purchased above its multi-year prices, along with a $2 billion donation-matching charge. The filing also lists about $895.4 billion in purchase commitments and leases, mostly for computing.
It also names recursive self-improvement, where AI speeds up the development of its successors, as a material risk. The filing says Anthropic may soon reach the related threshold in its Responsible Scaling Policy, while stating that no current model has been designated as exceeding it.
Why it matters
This is one of the most detailed public views yet of the economics of a frontier AI company: very fast growth, paired with enormous spending on computing. Disclosure: AI from Anthropic helped draft parts of this site. This is news, not investment advice.
